Inspired by Chgowiz at Greywulf’s place -Why I don’t like 3.5 much, think 4E is worse and am probably never going to try it.
First, my apologies to my players, this has not a thing to do with Valiant. I promise to not do much of this. However, it has to be said. Read More »
This program is the be all and end all of online tabletop gaming. I’m just convinced and I haven’t even run a game with it yet. A friend bought the program for one GM and four players after I promised that if he did, I’d see to it we played a game. (We’ve had several abortive attempts to do so online already over the years.)
Today he showed me that they had video tutorials available here:
http://www.fantasygrounds.com/downloads/
Watch them. Then drool. It’s just amazing.
Does it cost money? Yes. And I’m convinced it’s worth every bit of it.
Haven’t written much the last couple of days on Valiant because a) the task of converting the maps is daunting and b) I’ve been writing adventures. When I’ve finished running the first adventure, I’ll polish it off a bit and convert it to pdf for download. No passwords, completely copyable and with MAPS! So far, I’ve very much enjoyed writing these and it’ll be interesting to actually run them next month. Let me just say DeviantArt is terrific inspiration.
Only after making the adventures available for download will I write up anything resembling a game log for it.
Jerem’s Saloon is located about a day’s travel north of Sobra on the main trade route road. Near a copse of woods, with its own well, the Saloon is a popular stop for those traveling to and from the city. As such, its somewhat more expensive than many places people stop. Those who can’t afford to stay there camp in the nearby trees.

“Beast men are nomads who will live in any terrain provided there is a settlement to raid nearby. They are superb pirates and plague the shipping of more stable, settled nations the world over. Beast men average about 7′0″ for males and 6′6″ for females, weighing in near 250 pounds and 200 pounds each. Beast men live short, brutal lives that are only about 30 years long (maximum 40 years) and have a child mortality rate near 10%. Their families usually produce only 1 or 2 children altogether. Beast men are covered in white, black or brown fur and have black eyes.” Excerpted from Demographics.
Terrific sailors, any beast man character will have at least one pip in navigation. However, beast men aren’t easily accepted by more civilized cultures and prejudice will be rampant. Also, beast men have trouble adapting to very warm climates. Beast men easily scare opponents with their large size, however, and many don’t care what outsiders think of them.

Due to some screw-ups in my mapping techniques and scales, I have new, better maps. All maps older than this post for Kynafir and Sobra should be disregarded.

Senet is an ancient board game and probably the oldest existing one. The game board is a grid of thirty squares, arranged in three rows of ten. A senet game has two sets of pawns and is a race game for two players, with moves determined by tosses of dice. Some versions have special squares on the board such as places the pawns must land on the way to the end, a square pawns could be sent back to and a square pawns may only leave on a roll of 3.
It’s widely played by people of all social standings and spectators often gamble on the outcome of the game although it’s considered rude for the players to do so. The more superstitious player believes that his skill at a game of Senet affects Read More »
Image via WikipediaBeast men believe that the spirits of the dead, sentient and otherwise, haunt the killer for eternity unless appeased. Bone witches are the people who do this. Whenever a beast man kills something whether it be man, dwarf or deer, he tries to retrieve a small bone to take back to his tribe. Then he gives the bone to the witch, who adds it to the myriad already attached to her in jewelry and clothing, speaks to the spirit of the dead being and makes peace with it so the spirit will move on instead of haunting the beast men. Since beast men are nomadic, she could have bones from dozens of different kinds of sentient beings and animals.
The tribes believe that whenever something bad happens, Read More »

The priesthood of the Church in Kynafir has a far reaching and deep history, rooted within the traditions of the Thirteen Gods. Unlike the orthodox priesthoods usually found within Western society on Earth, the role of the cleric is vastly different within the society as a whole. Rather than seek the divine and develop a rapport with the gods, the role is akin to an everyday job. The mystical attributes of the cleric take on a secondary role, when one considers the heightened role religion plays within Kynafir. Not only is religion a way to attain the ethereal and basic needs of the people, but it also serves as a mechanism to order society, to create a hierarchy, and to preserve the culture for future generations. As such, the role of the priests and priestesses is both functional and mystical on both levels.

“Elves are almost as numerous as dwarves and tend to settle in the cold wilderness of the north although the recent trend for the last 10 years or so has been to migrate to cities. Those from the wilderness revere nature but the youth in the towns are less religious and more carefree. Elves are easily distinguished by their pointed ears and slitted eyes.
“Elves live about 200 years (maximum 250 yrs) and have a child mortality rate of about 40%. Few elven families have more than 1 child. Taller and thinner than humans, elves average 6′2″ for males and 5′10″ for females with healthy weights of 150 pounds and 130 pounds respectively. Hair color for elves is flashier than most races with white, blue and even purple hair found in significant numbers. Elven eyes tend towards feline colors of blue and green.” Excerpted from Demographics.

The elves are a warlike people who fight daily to survive in their patriarchal settlements in the great northern forests on Valiant. Usually they fight amongst themselves over the limited resources found so far north, but in the last one to two hundred years, younger elves have begun migrating into the equatorial cities. Adventurers in these cases will have the Disadvantage Cultural Unfamiliarity.
Most elves never learn to read or write as writing is regarded as magical so most of their laws and traditions are transmitted orally. (Player characters can re-assign the dice given as part of the racial template for this skill and scholar.) Their lives are pretty simple and a settlement might only have 3 or 4 buildings - a storehouse, a barn, a forge and a longhouse where Read More »
