All the languages in and near Kyanfir developed from the old empire of Mano-Ade where the main language was Iuze. Influenced by distance and various nomadic tribes, each country eventually developed its own form and dialect. The Church of the Thirteen Gods uses classical Iuze in both written and spoken liturgy, providing a common language for translation and trade.
Most in Kyanfir speak a dialect known as Hezrei, influenced by the pirate nomads that raid the middle of the country each winter and the coastal cities each summer who speak a gutteral tongue called Dzek. Those near Nuray may be fluent in Ibuil and Jannasberre has a considerable number of Ihreun speakers from Kai-Alti. Only scholars speak Ierae, the most common language of the elven barbarians, and Enel of the nomadic Reptile Folk.

Valabar’s is a renowned restaurant in Jannasberre with exquisite food. It’s a fairly large establishment with impeccable atmosphere, great dining and a quiet, knowledgeable waitstaff. In existence for several hundred years, it’s an experience in the city not to be missed.
You walk down three shallow steps, and if you’re Draegaran (which I’m not) or an exceptionally tall human (which I’m not), you duck your head. When you raise it again, you’re immediately ambushed by the aroma of fresh-baked bread - ambushed, and you surrender. Excerpt from Dzur.
A meal in Valabar’s will be 6 or 7 courses and may include dishes such as steak kabobs, duck breast and frisee salad, halibut with spicy yogurt, veal sweetbreads and their signature dish - a fruit sorbet. Several wines will be served throughout the meal. Dinner here will cost 15 Crowns at a minimum per person dining but no one who visited has ever regretted the cost.

The priesthood of the Church in Kynafir has a far reaching and deep history, rooted within the traditions of the Thirteen Gods. Unlike the orthodox priesthoods usually found within Western society on Earth, the role of the cleric is vastly different within the society as a whole. Rather than seek the divine and develop a rapport with the gods, the role is akin to an everyday job. The mystical attributes of the cleric take on a secondary role, when one considers the heightened role religion plays within Kynafir. Not only is religion a way to attain the ethereal and basic needs of the people, but it also serves as a mechanism to order society, to create a hierarchy, and to preserve the culture for future generations. As such, the role of the priests and priestesses is both functional and mystical on both levels.

There are a thin scattering of other intelligent races but they are so widespread and thinly populated that numbers aren’t available.
By far the majority live on the central landmasses close to the equator where it’s possible to grow food all year around. These populations account for Read More »
